The Greene County Rams football team moved to 8-0 on the season and stretched a streak of home wins to nine with a 60-8 victory over the winless Red Oak Tigers Friday in Jefferson.
The win sets up next Friday’s game in Ida Grove against the OA-BCIG Falcons as the Class 2A District 9 championship game, as both teams are undefeated.
The Rams’ senior-dominated starters built a 48-0 lead in the first half, allowing coach Caden Duncan to put reserves on the field to gain needed experience in the second half.
The Rams scored on their first possession in the longest drive of the game, an 82-yard, nine-play drive that took nearly four minutes. The Rams received the opening kickoff and play began on their 18 yard line. Senior quarterback Brent Riley connected with senior Nick Breon for a 33-yard pass play to take the Rams to the Tigers’ 49 yard line. Senior Cael Fisher kicked the point after touchdown and the Rams were up 7-0 with 8:06 to play in the first quarter.
